Aaron Godwin Hydrographic Surveyor/ GIS Specialist - Owner of Godwin Geospatial Services at GodwinGeospatialServices.com Why I Love Windows Phone May 14, 2016 • 3 Likes • 0 Comments I thought my love affair with Windows Phone was coming to an end earlier this month.  It had been nearly two years since I purchased my last trusty Nokia, a Lumia 930.  The phone has aged really well and is still as snappy as the day that I purchased it, but I was thinking it was about time for an upgrade.   Now here was my dilemma.....since Microsoft purchased the Nokia Phone division there has only been two Microsoft flag ship phones released.  The Lumia 950 and larger 950 XL.  Both of these phones received pretty average reviews from the internet phone gurus when they were released and I personally just didn't like that lack of sex appeal and lacklustre design of either of these phones. Sure they both seemed to offer a host of cool new features but man why did they fire the Nokia design team Grrrrr!!!!!!! Anyway, I started exploring what the other platforms were offering.  Yeah, there was some awesome software and hardware on offer from both Android and Apple but nothing that really appealed to me.  The old icon based systems on offer from Android and IPhone just look so dated I'm my opinion.  Live tiles, I need a sexy new phone with live tiles! So, I went back to the drawing board and did a bit more research on what was going on behind the scenes at Microsoft.  To my surprise! I found Windows Phone was not the 'Walking Dead platform'  as many  of the internet news feeds were trying to portray.  In fact I found just the opposite! Windows Phone 10 had been quietly improving in the background.  I had tried it out using the Windows Insider Program a year ago when I installed it on an old Lumia 830.  Back then it was so buggy at the time I gave up on it and never gave it another thought, until today. I found a five year old Lumia 1020 with it's beloved 41mp camera sitting in my bag.  I thought, hey maybe I'll just use it to test out what's new in Windows Phone 10 before I decide whether to jump ship or not.  So, I downloaded the free Windows Insider App and after a lengthy install  the phone was back up an running, WOW! My Lumia 1020 a five year old phone was now running and opening apps and websites faster than I'd ever seen it.  It was even giving my zippy Lumia 930 running Windows Phone 8.1 a cloud of dust on simple app and screen transitions.  Quite frankly, I am blown with what Microsoft have achieved and  how far the new platform has come.  It was like having a brand new phone on a five year old handset.  Well I am happy to say that my faith in the Windows Phone platform has been restored. NOW, Microsoft get your act together and give us a Sexy-Killer Windows Phone flagship that truly lives up to the gorgeous new internals that you have been tinkering with.  Oh, and by the way some of those Nokia people really, really new how to make awesome phones.....
